Our History

The church was established as an initiative of the Department of Urban Mission (BU) with the assistance of Salisbury, Sunnybank, Logan City and Park Ridge Baptist churches.

Rev Dr Max Davidson (a lecturer at QBTC) was asked to oversee the initial stages of the church and a home group began in August 1989.

The first service was held on Sunday, February 25, 1990 at the home of Trevor and Karen Jones. The church services were moved to Browns Plains State High School in April 1990.

Rev Les Herbert commenced as pastor in February 1991 and was followed by Rev Peter Wilkins in April 1992.

The church was constituted on February 21, 1993. Rev Peter Wilkins concluded his ministry in December 1996 and was followed by Ian Deane (1998-2003), Cain Mann (2003-2007) and Rev. David Blackburn (2010 - ).

Our Future

The church has always sort to have ministries that reach into the local community. This has mainly been in the form of ministry to children, youth and their families through Kid's Club, Youth Group and Young Adults.

We believe that God would have us to continue in this way and as such we have appointed a youth worker for 2 days per week.

Until recently, it has been a vision of the church to build a ministry center on our property to facilitate future ministry areas. Because the property is in a housing development area, the church has decided to sell the property and purchase a commercial building. Our prayer is that we will be able to move into this building debt free.

In light of this, we are looking forward to what God has install for Browns Plains Baptist Church.

Our Beliefs

1. The Bible is our authority in matters of faith and conduct, and the belief that God reveals Himself to us through it.

2. Our purpose is to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ.

3. We seek always to be relevant and contemporary, and to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ through our lives and words.

4. We believe ourselves to be a Royal Priesthood, and part of the Body of Christ.

5. We are as a congregation, independent and self-governing, but always supportive and prayerful of other congregations of like faith.

Our Ministry

Ministry style is one of teaching and building up people in their faith and their understanding of the Bible.

Our Worship

The worship style in Sunday services would be described as being mainly contemporary.

Our Leadership

The church operates with an eldership (pastor and elders) and a diaconate. These together with the treasurer, form the church council.

The membership holds designated meetings three times a year as well as the Annual General Meeting. While the eldership, diaconate and church council act on behalf of the membership in making decisions, they are answerable to the membership on all matters.
